Paul E. Potter
Paul E. Potter (1925–2021) was a renowned American geologist, professor emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, and pioneering researcher in Midwestern U.S. Paleozoic geology, paleocurrent analysis, basin analysis, and shale sedimentology. He authored seminal textbooks like 'Sedimentology of Shale' (1980) and 'Exploring the Geology of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Region,' along with over 130 articles and maps, and received the AAPG Sidney Powers Memorial Award, the association's highest honor. Born in Springfield, Ohio, he earned degrees from the University of Chicago and University of Illinois, taught at Indiana and Cincinnati, and collaborated extensively with state geological surveys in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana.
