Patrick Leigh Fermor
Sir Patrick Michael Leigh Fermor (1915–2011) was an English writer, scholar, soldier, and polyglot renowned for his travel books such as A Time of Gifts. He gained fame for his role in the Cretan resistance during World War II, including the daring kidnapping of German General Heinrich Kreipe. Widely regarded as Britain's greatest living travel writer, he chronicled his pre-war walk across Europe and post-war Caribbean journeys.[1][2][3]
