Patricia Gaffney is a New York Times bestselling author born in Tampa, Florida, who began her writing career with the historical romance Sweet Treason (1989), which won the Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart Award.[1][4] After writing twelve historical romance novels between 1989 and 1997, she transitioned to contemporary women's fiction with The Saving Graces (1999), which spent 17 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List and established her as a premier mainstream fiction writer.[1][2] Her decision to pursue writing full-time came after her 1984 breast cancer diagnosis, which prompted her and her husband to move to rural southern Pennsylvania in 1986.[4]
