Organization of American States
The Organization of American States (OAS) is an international organization of the American states, founded in 1948 to promote regional cooperation, democracy, human rights, security, and development in the Western Hemisphere. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and is widely described as the oldest regional organization in the world, with origins tracing back to 19th-century inter-American conferences.
