Norman Manea
Norman Manea is a Romanian-born novelist, essayist, and memoirist known for writing about the Holocaust, communist repression, and exile. Born in 1936 in Suceava, Romania, he was deported as a child to Transnistria, later worked as an engineer, and became a full-time writer in 1974. He left Romania in 1986 and has lived in the United States, where he has taught at Bard College.
