Norman Bridw Ell
Norman Ray Bridwell was an American author and illustrator best known for creating the Clifford the Big Red Dog children's book series, which began with the 1963 publication of Clifford the Big Red Dog after an editor suggested he write his own story.[2][1] Born in Kokomo, Indiana, he studied art at the John Herron Art Institute and Cooper Union before working as a commercial artist and freelance illustrator in New York.[1][7] The series, featuring Clifford's misadventures with owner Emily Elizabeth, has sold over 60 million copies worldwide and been translated into multiple languages.[4][6]
