Nicholas Shakespeare
Nicholas Shakespeare is a British novelist and biographer born in 1957, the son of a diplomat who spent much of his youth in Asia and South America. He began his career as a journalist for The Times and The Telegraph before turning to fiction in the 1980s, with his debut novel The Vision of Elena Silves winning the Somerset Maugham Award. Recognized as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 1993, his works including The Dancer Upstairs (filmed by John Malkovich) and biographies of Bruce Chatwin and Ian Fleming have been translated into 22 languages and twice longlisted for the Booker Prize.
