Nathaniel Burton

Nathaniel Burton was a renowned New Orleans chef born in 1914 who became known as "to the skillet what Louis Armstrong was to the trumpet."[1] He began his culinary career in 1939 as a busboy and dishwasher at Hotel New Orleans, eventually becoming executive chef at Hotel Pontchartrain's Caribbean Room for 20 years and later at Broussard's Restaurant.[1] He co-authored the 1978 book "Creole Feast: 15 Master Chefs of New Orleans Reveal Their Secrets" with civil rights activist Rudy Lombard, documenting the stories and culinary knowledge of New Orleans' top chefs.[1]
