Nathan Scott

Nathan A. Scott Jr. was an American scholar who helped establish the modern field of theology and literature and co-founded a prominent Ph.D. program in that field at the University of Chicago. He rejected the New Critics' view of poems as autonomous objects and emphasized the importance of authors' personal beliefs and the way literature represents the outside world.
