Mukulika Banerjee
Mukulika Banerjee is a British social anthropologist and professor in the Department of Anthropology at the London School of Economics (LSE), where she has served as Associate Professor since 2009 and was the inaugural Director of the LSE South Asia Centre from 2015-2020. She earned her D.Phil. in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford in 1994, following education at the University of Delhi, and previously lectured at University College London from 1996-2009. Her research focuses on political anthropology, Muslim societies in South Asia, elections, and fashion, with key books including The Pathan Unarmed (2000), The Sari (2003), Why India Votes (2014), and Cultivating Democracy (2021).
