Mr. J. McHENRY JONES

James McHenry Jones (1859–1909), often referred to as J. McHenry Jones, was an American educator, school administrator, minister, and author who served as the third principal of the West Virginia Colored Institute (now West Virginia State University). He is recognized as one of West Virginia's most prominent African-American educators and community leaders in the post-Civil War era. Jones authored the novel Hearts of Gold, published in 1896, which was republished by West Virginia University Press in 2010 after only eight copies survived.
