Miroslav Sasek

Miroslav Šašek (1916-1980) was a Czech-born illustrator and author best known for his 'This is...' series of children's travel books, including This is Paris (1959), This is London (1959), and This is New York (1960). Trained as an architect in Prague, he studied art in Paris, emigrated after the 1948 Communist coup in Czechoslovakia, worked for Radio Free Europe in Munich, and spent months researching cities for his distinctive, observational illustrations.[1][2][3]
