Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational technology company founded on April 4, 1975, by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque, New Mexico, initially to develop software for the Altair 8800 personal computer. It rose to prominence with MS-DOS and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office suite, and later expanded into gaming with Xbox, search with Bing, and cloud computing with Azure. Headquartered in Redmond, Washington, Microsoft became the world's largest personal-computer software company by the late 1980s.
