Melvin I. Smith
Melvin R. Smith (b. 1941) is an American artist born and raised in Oklahoma City, who served in the United States Marine Corps and earned a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Minnesota in 1975 before developing his practice in figurative collages and sculptures. In 2000, he and his wife, artist Rose J. Smith, founded the Oklahoma Museum of African American Art, and their work has been exhibited at institutions like the Weisman Art Museum and Fort Gansevoort.[1]
