Alexander 'Sandy' McCall Smith is a Rhodesian-Scottish legal scholar and prolific author born in 1948 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. He was formerly Professor of Medical Law at the University of Edinburgh and is best known for his internationally acclaimed No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. He has written over 100 books across multiple genres including fiction, children's literature, and academic works, with his novels translated into 46 languages.
