Max Charlesworth

Maxwell John Charlesworth (1925-2014) was an influential Australian philosopher and public intellectual who made significant contributions to philosophy of religion, bioethics, and studies of indigenous Australian religions. He held academic positions at the University of Auckland, University of Melbourne, and Deakin University, where he was Professor of Philosophy from 1980-1990. He was recognized as one of the most important Catholic laymen in twentieth-century Australian Catholicism and was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1990 for his contributions to education and bioethics.
