Mary-Lou Smith

Mary Louise Smith (born Mary Louise Epperson) was an American political leader from Eddyville, Iowa, best known for becoming the first woman to chair the Republican National Committee, a role she held from 1974 to 1977. She was active in Iowa Republican politics, supported the Equal Rights Amendment and abortion rights, and co-founded the Louise Noun–Mary Louise Smith Iowa Women's Archives.[6][10]
