Mary Cartwright

Dame Mary Lucy Cartwright (1900-1998) was a pioneering British mathematician renowned for her contributions to chaos theory, particularly in collaboration with J.E. Littlewood on nonlinear differential equations related to radio engineering.[1][2][4] She was the first woman mathematician elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1947, the first to receive its Sylvester Medal in 1964, and served as Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge from 1949 to 1968.[1][2][3] Cartwright also became the first woman president of the London Mathematical Society (1961-1963) and was appointed DBE in 1969.[2][3]
