Mary Batten, born January 19, 1937, in Smithfield, Virginia, is an award-winning science writer specializing in books for children and adults on topics like ecology, animals, human behavior, and astronomy.[1][7] She holds a B.A. from the New School for Social Research and an M.A. from Columbia University, and her projects have taken her to tropical rainforests, observatories, and research labs; recent books include Life in A Frozen World: Wildlife of Antarctica (2020).[1][2]
