Marshall Saunders
Marshall Saunders was the pseudonym used by Margaret Marshall Saunders (1861–1947), a prolific Canadian author who became the first Canadian to sell over one million copies of a single book, 'Beautiful Joe'. She adopted the male name to gain greater acceptance for her children's stories and essays, which often featured animals and conveyed moral purposes. Saunders was also a noted champion of children's and animal rights.
