Markus Thiel

Markus Thiel is a German academic and professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Florida International University, where he directs the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. His research focuses on the political sociology of the EU, European politics, human rights, identity politics, and LGBTI rights promotion, with publications including 'The EU’s international LGBTI rights promotion: promises & pitfalls' (Routledge, 2021). He earned his PhD from the University of Miami in 2005, following an MS from the University of Louisville in 1998 and a BS from the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in 1997.
