Marjorie Weinman Sharmat
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat was an American children's author who wrote over 130 books for children and young adults, best known for creating the popular Nate the Great detective series. Born in Portland, Maine, she graduated from Westbrook Junior College in 1948, married Mitchell Sharmat in 1957, and published her first book in 1967 after working in a library and raising two sons. Her works have been translated into multiple languages, won awards like Book of the Year from the Library of Congress, and some were adapted into films.
