Mara Shalhoup

Mara Shalhoup is ProPublica's South editor, a role she has held since December 2020, overseeing the organization's reporting unit in the region. Previously, she served as deputy editor of Atlanta magazine, guiding investigations into topics like the Atlanta Police Department’s disciplinary practices and Georgia’s COVID-19 dashboard. She is the author of 'BMF: The Rise and Fall of Big Meech and the Black Mafia Family,' detailing one of the largest cocaine enterprises in U.S. history and its ties to Atlanta's hip-hop scene.[1][2]
