Maggie Stiefvater, born Margaret Heidi Hummel on November 18, 1981, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is a #1 New York Times bestselling American author known for young adult fantasy series such as The Wolves of Mercy Falls, The Raven Cycle, and The Scorpio Races.[1][3] A voracious reader and writer from childhood, she had completed over 30 novels by age 18, worked as a portrait artist specializing in equestrian art, and pursued interests in music, racing, and automotive journalism before achieving literary success with her debut novel Lament in 2008.[1][4][3] She lives in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley with her husband, two children, dogs, and cars.[3][6]
