MA BENJAMIN JOWETT
Benjamin Jowett (1817–1893) was a renowned British classical scholar, translator, and educator who served as Master of Balliol College, Oxford, and Regius Professor of Greek. He is best known for his influential four-volume translation of Plato's Dialogues (1871) and a two-volume translation of Thucydides' History (1881), which became standard references. An outstanding tutor, he shaped generations of students and contributed to Essays and Reviews (1860), sparking theological controversy.
