Lysias
Lysias (c. 445 – c. 380 BC) was an Athenian logographer and one of the ten Attic orators, renowned for his forensic speeches written for clients in Athenian courts. Born to a wealthy metic family from Syracuse, he received rhetorical training in Thurii before returning to Athens around 412 BC, where he established a successful career as a speechwriter after personal hardships under the Thirty Tyrants. Over two decades, he composed more than 200 speeches, with 23 complete ones surviving, noted for their plain style and effectiveness.
