Luther Burbank
Luther Burbank (1849–1926) was an American horticulturist and botanist who developed over 800 varieties of plants, including the Burbank potato, Shasta daisy, and spineless cactus, through innovative crossbreeding techniques inspired by Charles Darwin. Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, he began his 55-year career at age 21 on a 17-acre farm, later moving to Santa Rosa, California, where he conducted thousands of experiments simultaneously. He authored the 12-volume 'Luther Burbank: His Methods and Discoveries and Their Practical Application,' documenting his groundbreaking work in agricultural science.
