Ludwig van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) was a German composer and pianist of the late Classical and early Romantic eras, bridging these periods with his innovative expansions of forms like the symphony and string quartet. Born in Bonn into a musical family, he studied with Haydn in Vienna, where he gained fame despite progressive deafness that began around 1797, culminating in total deafness by 1819. His masterpieces, including the Eroica Symphony and Symphony No. 9 with its choral finale, revolutionized music and remain among the most performed works today.
