Louis Houck

Louis Napoleon Houck was a lawyer, journalist, entrepreneur, historian, philanthropist, and railroad developer who became known as the "Father of Southeast Missouri." He built a network of railroads that helped transform Cape Girardeau and the surrounding region through industrialization, agriculture, lumbering, and commerce. He also wrote historical works on Missouri and served for decades as president of the Board of Regents of Southeast Missouri State Teacher's College.
