Liselotte Gumpel
Liselotte 'Lisa' Gumpel (1926-2015) was a German-American scholar and author born in Berlin, who fled Nazi Germany as a child refugee in 1935, eventually emigrating to the United States in 1954. She served as an Associate Professor of German at the University of Minnesota Morris from 1968 to 1997, specializing in linguistics, metaphor, and German poetry. Her notable works include 'Metaphor Reexamined: A Non-Aristotelian Perspective' (1984), nominated for the James Russell Lowell Prize, and 'Concrete Poetry from East and West Germany' (1976).
