Liliana Cavani

Liliana Cavani is an acclaimed Italian film director, screenwriter, and producer known for her bold exploration of socio-political and sexual themes in works like The Night Porter (1974), Francesco d'Assisi (1966), and Ripley's Game (2004). Born in Carpi, Italy, she graduated in Ancient Literature from the University of Bologna in 1959 and began her career directing documentaries and dramas for RAI television before transitioning to feature films in 1966. She founded Lotar Film in the 1960s for creative independence and remains one of the few Italian female directors recognized globally.
