Lee Bennett Hopkins

Lee Bennett Hopkins (1938-2019) was an American educator, poet, author, and anthologist known for authoring and editing over 100 award-winning books for children, including poetry anthologies and autobiographical works like Been to Yesterdays: Poems of a Life.[1][2][5] Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he grew up in Newark, New Jersey, taught elementary school, worked as an editor at Scholastic, and became a full-time writer while promoting poetry for young readers through awards he established.[3][4][5]
