Kristin Hannah (born September 25, 1960) is an American bestselling author known for her emotionally powerful novels exploring themes of love, loss, resilience, and female friendship, with notable works including The Nightingale, Firefly Lane, The Great Alone, and Winter Garden.[1][3][6] She began her career with romance novels like A Handful of Heaven in 1991, transitioned to contemporary women's fiction in the 2000s, and achieved major success with historical fiction.[1][2][3] After studying communication at the University of Washington and earning a law degree, she practiced law in Seattle before becoming a full-time writer, inspired by collaborating on a novel with her mother during her illness.[3][5]
