Kris Lane
Kris E. Lane is the France V. Scholes Chair in Colonial Latin American History at Tulane University in New Orleans, specializing in the history of the Andes region and extractive industries like silver and gemstone mining in early modern South America. He earned his B.A. from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1991 and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1996. His notable books include PotosÃ: The Silver City that Changed the World (2019), Colour of Paradise: The Emerald in the Age of Gunpowder Empires (2010), and Pillaging the Empire: Global Piracy on the High Seas, 1500-1750 (2015).
