Katherine Johnson

Katherine Johnson was an African American mathematician whose calculations were crucial to early U.S. spaceflight at NASA and its predecessor, NACA. Her work helped with missions including Alan Shepard’s first American spaceflight and Apollo 11, and she became widely recognized for breaking racial and gender barriers in science.
