Karl Maramorosch
Karl Maramorosch (1915-2016) was a renowned American virologist, entomologist, and plant pathologist born in Vienna, Austria, who survived the Holocaust and became a pioneer in plant pathology and insect tissue culture. He provided the first evidence that plant pathogens can replicate within insects and developed key techniques for growing insect cells in labs, authoring over 800 research papers and editing more than 90 volumes. His career included positions at Rockefeller University, Boyce Thompson Institute, and Rutgers University, where he earned the Wolf Prize in Agriculture in 1980.[1][2][3][4][5]
