Jozef Mackiewicz

Józef Mackiewicz (1902–1985) was a Polish writer, journalist, and staunch anti-communist, best known for his documentary novels such as 'Droga donikąd' (The Road to Nowhere) and 'Nie trzeba głośno mówić' (One Is Not Supposed to Speak Aloud), which drew from his eyewitness accounts of events like the Katyn massacre and Ponary extermination. He worked as a reporter for his brother Stanisław's newspaper 'Słowo' in Vilnius, refused to collaborate fully with either Soviet or German occupiers despite brief contributions to a German-published Polish paper, leading to lifelong accusations of collaboration. Emigrating after World War II, he settled in Munich, continuing his opposition to nationalism and communism through journalism and literature until his death in exile.
