Joseph Larner
Joseph Larner was a distinguished biochemist and pharmacologist born in Brest-Litovsk, Poland (now Belarus), who immigrated to the United States as an infant and earned degrees from the University of Michigan, Columbia Medical School, University of Illinois, and Washington University.[1][3] He devoted his career to studying insulin mechanisms for diabetes treatment, served as Chairman of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia from 1969 to 1990, and received awards like the Banting Medal.[1] Larner was also researching Alzheimer's disease breakthroughs before his death at age 93.[5]
