Joseph Goodman
Joseph Thompson Goodman (1838–1917) was an American journalist, writer, and epigrapher best known as the owner and editor of the Territorial Enterprise in Virginia City, Nevada, during the Comstock silver boom, where he hired Samuel Clemens, giving Mark Twain his start as a professional writer. He transformed the paper into one of the West Coast's most influential newspapers, renowned for its mining reporting, literary quality, and anti-corruption stance. Later, he contributed significantly to Maya epigraphy by helping develop the Goodman-Martinez-Thompson method for dating Mayan sites.
