Joseph Addison
Joseph Addison (1672-1719) was a British essayist, poet, playwright, and politician best known for founding The Spectator magazine with Richard Steele. His simple, accessible prose style revolutionized English writing and marked the end of 17th-century literary conventions. He was also a prominent Whig politician who held important government posts and authored the famous play Cato, a Tragedy.
