Jonathan Williams

Jonathan Williams (March 8, 1929 – March 16, 2008) was an American poet, publisher, essayist, and photographer who founded The Jargon Society in 1951, a press dedicated to experimental poetry, fiction, photography, and folk art. He is celebrated for merging literary and visual arts through over 100 avant-garde publications and received a Guggenheim fellowship and multiple National Endowment for the Arts grants. Williams died of pneumonia in Highlands, North Carolina, at age 79.
