John Wesley Powell
John Wesley Powell was a pioneering American explorer, geologist, and ethnologist best known for leading the first documented voyage down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in 1869. He later served as the second director of the U.S. Geological Survey and advocated for the prudent use of water resources in the arid American West.
