John Mitchell Kemble

John Mitchell Kemble (1807–1857) was an English scholar and historian renowned for his major contributions to Anglo-Saxon history and Old English philology, including one of the first translations of Beowulf[1]. He was the eldest son of actor Charles Kemble and the elder brother of actress Fanny Kemble, and his work encompassed editions of Anglo-Saxon charters and the historical study The Saxons in England[1][3]. Kemble died of pneumonia in Dublin on 26 March 1857 after a visit to Ireland[1][5].
