John Jakes

John William Jakes (1932–2023) was an American author renowned for his historical fiction, including the bestselling Kent Family Chronicles and the North and South trilogy about the Civil War, which sold millions of copies and was adapted into a popular miniseries.[1][2][4] He began writing as a teenager, publishing over 80 books across genres like science fiction, mystery, and westerns before achieving widespread success in the 1970s.[2][5] Jakes earned degrees from DePauw University and Ohio State University, worked in advertising, and received two Pulitzer nominations for his novels.[3][5]
