John Himmelman (Author, Illustrator)

John Himmelman is an American author, illustrator, and naturalist born in 1959, best known for writing and illustrating children's books as well as adult works on natural history topics.[1][2] He began his career as a writer and illustrator in 1981 after studying at the School of Visual Arts, inspired by children's book masters like Arnold Lobel, and has also taught classes, lectured on nature, and served on environmental boards including as president of the New Haven Bird Club.[1][2][5] Additionally, he created the BIG SIT! birding event in 1993 and co-founded the CT Butterfly Association.[2][5]
