John Harrison

John Harrison was an English carpenter and clockmaker who invented the first practical marine chronometer, solving the critical problem of determining longitude at sea. His groundbreaking timekeeping devices enabled navigators to accurately calculate their east-west position, revolutionizing maritime navigation and saving countless lives. Harrison received partial recognition from Parliament for his work, including the Copley Medal and a portion of the Longitude Prize.
