John Harland

Dr. John H. Harland was a maritime historian and author born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on May 8, 1923, who trained as a physician and anesthesiologist before emigrating to Canada in 1951 and retiring in 1986 to focus on writing. He developed a passion for ships during naval service, mastering languages like German and Norwegian for research, and authored several books on maritime history, most notably 'Seamanship in the Age of Sail.' Harland passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018, shortly after his 95th birthday.[1][4][5]
