John Gould

John Gould (1804–1881) was an English ornithologist and naturalist renowned as the 'father of Australian ornithology' for his lavishly illustrated seven-volume work, Birds of Australia. He made significant contributions to the study of birds, including the identification of Darwin's finches, which aided the development of the theory of evolution by natural selection. His publications commanded high prices among bibliophiles and remain celebrated for their artistic and scientific quality.
