John Gottlieb Ernestus Heckewelder
John Gottlieb Ernestus Heckewelder (1743-1823) was a Moravian missionary who emigrated from Bedford, England, to Pennsylvania in 1754 and dedicated his life to missions among Native American tribes, particularly the Delaware and Mohegan Indians in Ohio and Pennsylvania.[1][2][3] He assisted David Zeisberger, founded Christian Indian communities like Schoenbrunn and Gnadenhutten, served as a U.S. peace commissioner, and later authored key works on Indian history, manners, and missions.[2][3][4]
