John Foster
John Foster (1770–1843) was an English Baptist minister and essayist born in Halifax, Yorkshire, the son of a weaver. Educated at a Baptist college in Bristol, he served as a minister before becoming a full-time writer, contributing nearly 200 articles to the Eclectic Review. His notable works include Essays, in a Series of Letters (1804) and Essay on the Evils of Popular Ignorance (1820), advocating for a national education system.
